The Craftsman Behind the Builds

From Sawdust to Screens – My Journey

I’m here to show you that you can build it too.
And…if you wanna light it on fire, well that’s up to you!

If I can do it, you can too. I know new dad’s are busy, heck I have twin toddlers! I know the feeling! But that doesn’t mean that you can’t carve (see what I did there) out a little time to hone your maker skills. I don’t know about you, but when I became a father, something in my core changed. I knew I had to get my hands dirty and build stuff.

Hi, I’m Nick, the maker behind Build Dad Build. I create woodworking tutorials, DIY furniture plans, art and laser engraved projects designed to inspire makers of all levels.

I’m the guy on the internet who burns stuff… on purpose.

I’ve always been a maker, even before I realized it. I was a writer first, then a web developer-in-the-making—until life (and twins) happened. But no matter what, I was always creating—building a garage workbench, painting murals for the kids’ nursery—never quite calling it making.

Then I found the maker community, and everything clicked. I wasn’t just building things; I was creating art.

What started as a hobby has turned into something bigger. Now, I carve, burn, and shape wood into something uniquely mine—part functional, part artistic, all fueled by obsession. My shop is my sanctuary, a place where I get lost in the process, and I share it all in hopes of inspiring others to pick up a tool and create.

This isn’t just a passion—it’s a way of life. And if I can turn a garage hobby into something real, so can you.

Come along for the ride. Let’s build something badass together.
